EQUINE THERAPY FOR THE
21ST CENTURY
Equine health and horse therapy is a major component of the Thorp Institute, by providing Acuscope and Myoscope treatment, joint therapy, and other pain management techniques. Equine therapy uses state of the art equipment and cellular micro current instruments as noninvasive, drug-free care to restore and maintain peak performance in horses.
The Electro-Acuscope & Myopulse that provides fast, effective and unique treatments. These micro current instruments provide a non-invasive and drug free therapy. Trainers and owners alike and drug free therapy. Trainers and owners alike depend on the most efficient and safest treatments available in order to maintain peak performance in their horses.

Electro-Acuscope & Myopulse
The animals body functions through low-voltage conductivity with different currents that flow through connective tissues including muscles, tendons, ligaments, bone as well as neurological brain wave conductivity. When an animal becomes injured the body's normal conductivity becomes altered. Micro current Therapy is extremely small pulsating currents of electricity. It is administered through various types of small therapeutic probes that offer a corrective signal that normalizes abnormalities with no discomfort, side effects, overdoses or over stimulation. Micro current therapy offers unlimited creative healing potential.
The Electro-Acuscope & Myopulse are sophisticated electronic Medical Instruments with an input-output mechanism. The low voltage micro current allows healing of damaged neural and connective tissue. What makes the Acuscope & Myopulse instruments unique to other micro current devices is that the Acuscope and Myopulse are the only micro current instruments available that are able to decipher abnormal tissue response and adjust the electrical output to produce a corrective current that normalizes or relaxes damaged tissue. The treatment is non-invasive, and virtually painless.

Liz Walch has been involved with horses for over 30 years, becoming familiar with many disciplines of riding and many types of Equine injuries and ailments. She groomed and assisted vets at 3 Michigan racetracks as well as in Florida and Louisiana over a 5 year span. She was a foundation trainer and owner of cutting horses and served on the Board of Directors for the Central MI Cutting Horse Association. She's been involved with polo since 1989 and has been resident of CA since 1990. She got involved with Equine Therapy because of the potential healing effects that these treatments offer. The following are case studies from her practice.
- Becky Rhodes, D.V.M. of Honolulu, diagnosed an Arabian dressage horse with a severely acute bowed tendon. She prescribed a series of Electro-Acuscope & Myopulse treatments. At the end of 28 days, 20 treatments, Dr. Rhodes examined the horse, she found the tendon to be straightened and the horse to be sound. The owner was able to return the horse to light work.
- Slumber, a Thoroughbred polo pony owned by Daniel Healy, while being shod backed into an anvil which created a six inch diameter laceration. Within 3 treatments the wound shrunk considerably. One week later and 3 additional treatments the wound was almost completely healed.
- Roman Lair a thoroughbred race horse was x-rayed and diagnosed by veterinarian, Dr. Nancy Korenk to be suffering from a deteriorating coffin bone. Roman Lair's condition was accompanied by painful swelling and degenerative tissue changes which can be permanently crippling. At the end of 3 ½ months extensive bone repair was evident. Inflammation was non-existent and the foot was on its way to repair.
Teri Capaldi has been involved with horses for over 30 years. Her specialty is breeding and showing cutting Horses. She is a native Californian and works in both the Los Angeles and the Paso Robles areas.
The following Cases in 2002 reflect Teri’s results using the Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse.
- Van Snow DVM, of Santa Ynez, CA diagnosed, “Spookys Smarty Pants”, a cutting horse futurity prospect, as having pulled the suspensories in both a front and rear leg, just weeks prior to the futurity. The mare was treated using the Electro Acuscope and Myopulse at the suspensories as well as at points for overall well being. The mare, ridden by Gary Gonsalves, won Open Reserve Champion at the Fort Worth NCHA Cutting Futurity out of over 600 horses, earning a check for over $140,000.
- A 3-year-old gelding, owned by Jack Elliott, of the Atwood Ranch, in Northern CA, came up sore in the hind-end at the Mid-State Futurity in Paso Robles, CA. The gelding was treated with the Electro Acuscope and Myopulse and made it to the final round. There they tied for 1st place and won the cut-off winning the Non-Pro division.
Avis Bell has also been involved with horses for over 30 years Avis’s specialty is in Barrel racing and Western performance. Avis Bell competed on a colt at the NBHA Minnesota state finals in Barrel racing and after being seeded 18th took third place in the fourth division championship. In 1999 and 2000 Avis participated in the World NBHA championships in Augusta Georgia.
Avis currently owns Animal alternatives In Minnesota and has had horses flown in from all over the country to receive Acuscope and Myopulse treatments.
The following Cases in 2002 reflect Avis’s results using the Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse.
- “Vince”, was a Barrel racing and roping horse. He slipped on the ice and broke a bone in the Ileum or Pelvic area. DVM Tom Prive suggested the horse be put down due to this extreme injury. After 6 treatments Dr. Prieve was amazed with the results and stated, “What ever Avis is doing have her keep doing it”. 2 _ half months later, Vince, feeling the effects of Acuscope and Myopulse therapy broke free and ran bucking and kicking down the alleyway to the amazement of his owners.
- “Bugsey,” A 22 year old barrel racing horse, who had performed all over the continental United States consistently placing at the top, was injured in competition. The diagnosis, “he would remain crippled for the rest of his life.” Due to his age, Arthritis, and this new injury, the vets comment was, “He really has no purpose left.” He suggested retirement in pasture.
