The History of the Thorp Institute
Thorp's doctors reported, "His tibia plateau was shattered into over fifty pieces, like an egg shell. The team glued him back together using three pins, two plates and twelve screws. Even with their expert carpentry, the prognosis was still grim. "He will never be able to bend the knee. We have only one hope: a complete knee replacement. Without it, he will walk with a severe limp or will have to use a cane for the rest of his life." Having a complete knee replacement would make him a liability in the motion picture stunt business, ending his career forever. Ignoring the counsel of Western medical doctors, Thorp refused to believe his career as a stuntman was over, so he called on many of his friends, including Lee Majors who recommended a new therapy that was showing dramatic results with professional athletes. This therapy used the Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse instruments, and was widely utilized at the Sports Medicine Clinic where Majors received care. Thorp quickly took Major's advice. The results were remarkable. After the conclusion of his treatments, Thorp returned to the world he loved as a stuntman. Though some people called his recovery a miracle, it was the Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse instruments and Thorp's own determination to heal his leg, that helped in his rehabilitation. The body's own healing process enabled Thorp's body to essentially "restructure" the knee joint without surgery and drugs, so it was just as useable as his other knee. Amazingly, only one year from the date of the injury, he ran his first triathlon on a leg doctors said would never bend again. Now, twenty years later, there is no sign of arthritis in his knee joint. He not only proved the doctor's prognosis wrong, but he healed himself with the Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse instruments. Thorp's injuries opened doors to a world he never expected. Over the last 20 years he has lectured to medical doctors, chiropractors, and other health care practitioners about his own healing success and how he has helped thousands of others. His twenty-plus years of consistently positive results attracted the attention of local, national, and international media. It also attracted the attention and endorsements of some of the top medical facilities in the world. Terry Bradshaw thrust the Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse into the limelight when he used them to rehabilitate his damaged throwing arm, which helped him win the 1983 Super Bowl. Since that time, the Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse have been responsible for speeding up the recovery time of such elite athletes as Joan Benoit, Jack Nicholas, Hale Erwin, Joe Montana, Wayne Gretsky, Mary Decker, and Michael Jordan. Even Pope John Paul II had several machines at the Vatican. During his recovery time, Thorp had also used the instruments on horses to test and prove their effectiveness. Thorp knew that horses could not "fake" injuries or wellness. Much to the surprise of everyone (except Thorp), the horses showed the same remarkable results Thorp had experienced.
Thorp began working with a chiropractor at a wellness center in Big Bear, California and saw the amazing results of Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse treatments continue. Desiring to develop his own protocols to expand the usage of these incredible machines, Thorp attended the Institute of Oriental Medicine in Honolulu. In 1988 he became a licensed massage therapist in Hawaii, which enabled patients to be reimbursed by insurance for the therapy, and he began treating patients in Dr. Barry Nutter's office in Kahala, Hawaii. Within a few years, Thorp was introduced to Dr. John Monge the Vice President of Castle Medical Center in Hawaii, a division of Loma Linda, who had heard of Thorp's work. He had a problem with his hamstring and was a marathon runner who was having a hard time running. He asked Thorp to come and demonstrate the Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse at the Work Well Rehabilitation Center in Kaneohe, Hawaii. Dr. Monge said, "You could demonstrate it on me. If it works on me, we will give it a try at our Physical Therapy Center in Kaneohe." Dr. Monge was so impressed with the fast healing of his own hamstring that he hired Thorp, and soon Thorp was treating 8 patients a day and achieving the same incredible results. Dr. Monge asked Thorp to oversee the Work-Well Rehabilitation Program and their chronic pain patients. In the summer of 1992 Thorp's work was featured in the Health Scene, a Loma Linda newspaper, whose feature article was entitled, "Stuntman Thorp Shares Technology that Saved His Life: Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse Therapy Helps the Body Heal Itself." Castle Medical Center purchased three more outpatient Physical Therapy Centers on Maui. Thorp had trained and would now supervise the technicians, to guarantee the same results he had obtained using the Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse at all five of their outpatient Physical Therapy Centers: three on Maui and two in Honolulu. To get consistent results using the Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse, well-trained technicians were needed. Thorp surrounded himself with physicians, podiatrists, and chiropractors, drawing information from each of these medical disciplines and applying it to his specific use of the instruments. Overseeing hundreds of patients per week and obtaining successful results for thousands of patients, Thorp fine-tuned his proven Thorp Protocols. With the results documented, he knew he had found a new walk of technician medicine substantiated by measurable results at a major medical center. His overwhelming success with the reduction of acute and chronic pain associated with disease and injury could not be denied. Thorp had clinically proven that these instruments, the Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse, would definitely be a part of the Medicine of the Twenty-First Century. In April 1994, Thorp opened the Balance Body Center in Kahala, Hawaii and trained massage therapists to be technicians. The combination of Physical Therapy and a Physical Therapist overseeing the Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse technicians proved to be the ultimate combination. He incorporated both at the Balance Body Center and was featured on all three major News affiliates ABC, NBC, and CBS in the state of Hawaii. Thorp's Center was a success and with success came expansion. Thorp, along with an old friend Jeff Meek, opened the Thorp Institute of Alternative Medicine at the Westwood Medical Center in West Los Angeles, California in 1995. The clinic was an immediate success. Thorp Institute was contacted by UPN who wanted to do a feature piece on Thorp's use of the Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse on its show "Strange Universe". "It seemed like a good idea at the time," Thorp said. Soon he realized there was a big difference between being featured on local news channels in Hawaii and receiving national exposure. As calls came in from all over the country, Thorp quickly realized that a lot of people were given hope but most could not afford to travel to Thorp's clinic. He did not have a network of trained technicians across the country, so he could not guarantee the same results that he and his team were getting that had generated all the news media coverage. Thorp decided to stop doing national television interviews until he had an expansive referral network capable of handling the demand for this type of therapy. "There are many microcurrent black boxes out there with various results. Anyone with one could say it is the same as what we are doing, said Thorp, and they just are not!" "Once we have trained hundreds of clinics and technicians coast-to-coast to properly use the Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse the same way I do, we'll begin the media blitz," stated Thorp. In 1997 Thorp opened the Thorp Institute of Integrated Medicine, Inc. to focus on training technicians and bringing this remarkable microcurrent technology to the world. Thorp now trains doctors in every walk of medicine, from veterinarians to neurosurgeons, in the proper use of the same technology that saved his Stunt career and has offered a new career in healthcare to thousands of others. Besides filming all of his proven Thorp Protocols, Thorp has recently completed his autobiography Nine Lives. Thorp's mission is to share his healing message with the world: "There exists a new paradigm, a shift from sickness to wellness in the Twenty First Century and BEYOND - a future without pain. It's here. Now!" What Professionals are Saying About John Thorp, Thorp Institute, and the Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse Instruments:
"I suffer from an anterior cruciate ligament tear, which is exacerbated by my childhood affliction from poliomyelitis. Under your guidance the pain from the injury has diminished and the impossible has begun - the healing of the ligamental tear. "It is noteworthy that the Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse are the only medical devices that have ever received an Apostolic Blessing from the Vatican, and they are registered by the FDA for pain management. "It is my hypothesis that the Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse when properly administered can provide much more than pain management, including healing for muscular, cellular, bacterial or even viral infirmities." - Dr. Alex Daoud MD.
